Choosing the right time to prune depends on the species of tree. Generally, we recommend pruning trees during the winter months as trees hibernate in lower temperatures. If you cut some species of trees in spring or summer, the wounds this creates can lead to the development of diseases. If in doubt, speak to our team and we would be delighted to advise you. We offer year-round service throughout the local area.

Bird nesting season officially occurs between February and August. However, this is also dependent on location, the species of bird and the weather. We care about our local wildlife and will always ask you if you have seen any birds nesting in trees or hedges where work is to be carried out. We will also carry out our own visual checks at the time of quotation and also on the day of the work. If any active nest is found, we reserve the right to postpone work and reschedule when the nest is no longer active in line with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a quote unless we have assessed the work in person. During an assessment, we need to take several factors into account including health and safety considerations. There may also be aspects of the work that may not be visible in the photos. We would be delighted to arrange an assessment in person. Just speak to our friendly team to arrange a convenient time.

Following a storm, you should always check your trees for hanging or broken branches, as well as cracks throughout the trunk and limbs. Try to do this from a safe distance if you can. If in doubt, call us and we will arrange to assess your tree for you. Following an assessment, we can then advise you on any damage and the best course of action for this.

The winter months can put a lot of stress on trees, especially young trees and saplings. You can help them to weather the season well by adding a little mulch at the base of your tree for insulation and moisture retention. Removing snow and ice from limbs and wrapping trunks in tree wrap can also help.

Trees are one of the hardiest natural objects on the planet but from time to time, they can succumb to disease and damage. Some of the signs that a tree might be unhealthy or dying are; poorly-coloured foliage, leaves dropping out of season, smaller leaves or no leaves, and cracked bark which appears to be ‘bleeding’.

Other signs include fungus growing on areas of the tree’s trunk or limbs or at the base. If you are worried about a tree and need professional advice, get in touch with us today.
